Craft beer Stockholm has evolved faster than almost any other European scene in the past decade. The city's state alcohol monopoly — the Systembolaget — created unusual conditions for independent brewers: distribution was controlled, which meant quality had to compete on its own terms. The result is a concentration of genuinely excellent small breweries, and a bar scene that has learned to source them well. We spent a week in the city covering Södermalm, Vasastan, and the northern islands to find the places worth returning to.
The Best Craft Beer Bars Stockholm Has to Offer
Stockholm's craft scene has a particular character: less aggressive than London's, more experimental than Copenhagen's, and deeply influenced by Scandinavian food culture. The best bars here treat beer with the same rigour they apply to natural wine — small producers, minimal intervention, seasonal ingredients, and staff who can explain the provenance of every glass. These are the bars that set that standard.
01
Omnipollo Hatt
Södermalm
$$
Landmark / Essential
Omnipollo is one of the most influential craft breweries in Europe, and their Södermalm bar is the best place to experience the full range. The tap list changes constantly, with a focus on the brewery's experimental releases alongside collabs from international partners. The space is small and fills quickly on weekday evenings — arrive before 6pm to guarantee a seat at the bar. The soft-serve sundaes made with beer are, against all reason, excellent.
Order: Whatever Omnipollo hazy IPA is currently on tap — the recipes rotate, the quality does not.
02
Soldaten Svejk
Östermalm
$$
Czech / Traditional
A Czech-themed bar that takes its beer as seriously as any specialist taproom in the city. Soldaten Svejk stocks an exceptional range of Czech craft and classic lager — Kozel, Bernard, and several smaller producers alongside genuine Swedish craft options. The basement seating gives it the feel of a Central European beer cellar, which makes it the best option in the city for a long session that starts early and ends late. Tank-conditioned Czech lager on certain evenings.
Order: Bernard dark lager on tap — one of the most underrated dark beers available in Stockholm, served cold and properly conditioned.
03
Nya Carnegiebryggeriet
Hammarby Sjöstad
$$
Brewery Bar / Industrial
Stockholm's largest independent craft brewery occupies a 19th-century brewery building on the waterfront in Hammarby Sjöstad, and the taproom is worth the ten-minute tram ride. The water views are one consideration; the beer quality is the more important one. The Porter Carnegie, brewed to a recipe dating to the 1830s, is the standout — a rich, dry Baltic porter that earns its place in any discussion of great Scandinavian beers.
Order: Porter Carnegie — dark, dry, and brewed in the building where you are sitting. A genuine Stockholm beer experience.

Södermalm and Vasastan: Where Stockholm Craft Beer Concentrates
The two neighbourhoods that matter most for craft beer in Stockholm are Södermalm — the southern island that has become the city's creative centre — and Vasastan on the north side, where a cluster of independent bars has developed over the past few years. Both are walkable from the city centre and reward an evening on foot moving between establishments.
04
Monks Café
Norrmalm
$$
Encyclopaedic / Reliable
Monks has been the encyclopaedic option in Stockholm for decades, and the depth of the bottle list remains unmatched in the city — over 600 beers from producers across Europe and North America. The tap selection is smaller but carefully chosen, and the kitchen serves food that pairs well rather than competing for attention. Best for groups with divergent tastes who want everyone to find something they love without extensive discussion.
Order: A rare Belgian import from the bottle list — Monks sources editions that do not reach Swedish Systembolaget shelves.
05
Oliver Twist Pub
Vasastan
$$
British-style / Relaxed
A British-style pub with a serious craft tap list — twelve handles covering Swedish, UK, and American craft with an emphasis on cask-conditioned ales that are rare in Stockholm. Oliver Twist draws a reliably local crowd rather than tourists, which keeps the atmosphere honest. The kitchen produces a solid burger and the chips are worth ordering. Reliable for a mid-week evening when other options feel too effortful.
Order: A cask-conditioned British real ale — they rotate stocks from UK producers and it is the best place in the city to find properly dispensed cask beer.
06
Akkurat
Södermalm
$$
Whisky and Beer / Specialist
Akkurat sits at the intersection of craft beer and whisky in a way that few bars manage without doing both badly. The tap list runs to twenty-four handles of rotating Swedish and international craft; the whisky shelf behind the bar covers over 500 bottles. The combination draws a particular kind of drinker — serious, experienced, and willing to spend some time at the bar before deciding what to order. Staff here are experts in both categories.
Order: A high-ABV Swedish imperial stout followed by a Swedish single malt whisky — the pairing is unusual and excellent.

07
Kungsholmen Brygghus
Kungsholmen
$$
Neighbourhood Taproom
A neighbourhood taproom on the western island that opened in 2021 and has quickly become the go-to for Kungsholmen residents who want decent craft without travelling to Södermalm. The house beers — brewed on premises in a visible brewhouse behind the bar — are solid across all styles, with a particular strength in session lagers and pale ales. The outdoor terrace is one of the quieter spots in the city for a summer afternoon beer.
Order: The house-brewed session pale ale — designed for the long Swedish summer afternoon and calibrated accordingly.
08
Bierhaus
Vasastan
$$
German Influence / Solid
A Vasastan bar that takes Bavarian and German brewing traditions seriously in a city where that perspective is underrepresented. Bierhaus stocks a rotating selection of German craft alongside Swedish interpretations of German styles — Kellerbier, Rauchbier, Zwickel — that demonstrate how Swedish brewers are engaging with continental traditions. The Bavarian food menu is better than it has any right to be at these prices.
Order: A Swedish Kellerbier — unfiltered, slightly hazy, and a direct response to the Bavarian originals done well by local producers.

Our Verdict on Stockholm Craft Beer
Craft beer Stockholm has arrived at a point of genuine maturity. The scene is no longer just imitating London or Copenhagen — it has developed a voice, with Omnipollo leading international recognition and a generation of neighbourhood taprooms building the local foundation. We recommend Omnipollo Hatt for an introduction to Swedish craft at its most ambitious, Nya Carnegiebryggeriet for the historic setting and Porter Carnegie, and Akkurat for a serious evening with someone who knows their beer. Oslo covers similar territory and rewards comparison — if you are in Scandinavia for more than a few days, both cities are worth your time.
