We have spent considerable time finding the best date night bars in Paris, and the conclusion is both obvious and frequently ignored: the city's greatest romantic bars are not the ones with views of the Eiffel Tower. They are the ones where the lighting is correct, the room is small enough to require proximity, and the bartender understands that a good night requires a certain invisible architecture. These 10 bars provide exactly that.
The Best Romantic Bars in the Marais
The 3rd and 4th arrondissements hold Paris's most concentrated run of date-worthy bars. The neighbourhood is dense, walkable, and designed for evenings that start at one end of a street and end somewhere else entirely.
01
Little Red Door
3rd Arr.
$$$
Concept Cocktail / Dim
Little Red Door consistently ranks among the world's best cocktail bars, and it earns the title through atmosphere as much as technique. The room is small, dark, and warm in the particular way that makes conversation feel important. The cocktail menu changes seasonally around a single creative concept. The seats at the bar are better than any table. Book at least a week ahead for Friday or Saturday.
Order: Their current seasonal menu opener, always a lower-ABV aperitif style
02
Candelaria
3rd Arr.
$$
Hidden / Mexican-Inspired
The taqueria front is part of the charm. Walk through the back door into one of the most focused mezcal and tequila cocktail bars in Europe. Candelaria has been packing 30 people into a room built for 20 since 2011. The agave spirits selection is serious, the margaritas are exceptional, and the proximity forced by the layout is occasionally the best thing that happens on a date in Paris.
Order: The house mezcal margarita with chili salt, or ask the bartender for a smoky Oaxacan Old Fashioned
03
Glass
9th Arr. / Pigalle
$$
Natural Wine / Low-Lit
Glass operates on a corner of Pigalle that has been redrawn entirely by the natural wine movement and the bars that followed it. The wine list here reads like a love letter to small French growers with a particular affection for Jura and Loire. The room is narrow, the stools are close together, and the crowd is made up entirely of people who have strong opinions about orange wine and enjoy sharing them.
Order: A glass of Domaine Ganevat Poulsard from the Jura, if they have it

Saint-Germain and the Left Bank for Date Night
The 6th arrondissement is expensive and has been for decades, which means its bars have either leaned into serious quality or closed. The ones that remain are worth every euro.
04
Bar du Marche
6th Arr. / Saint-Germain
$$
Classic Brasserie / Timeless
Not fashionable. Not trying to be. Bar du Marche on Rue de Buci has been the preferred date bar of the Saint-Germain crowd since the 1960s, and it shows no signs of updating. The wine list is short, the waiters are characterful, and the room at 8pm on a Wednesday has a quality of light that cannot be designed. Order wine and stop trying to impress each other. The bar does that for you.
Order: A carafe of house Burgundy and whatever the blackboard specials say
05
La Closerie des Lilas
6th Arr. / Montparnasse
$$$
Historic / Brass and Wood
Hemingway drank here, which is either a selling point or a warning depending on your sensibility. Ignore the history and focus on the bar itself: one of the most beautiful rooms in Paris, with mahogany panelling, low brass lamps, and a cocktail list that never tries to be anything other than excellent. The Piano Bar side is tighter and more atmospheric than the brasserie. Sit there.
Order: The house champagne cocktail with a dash of Calvados
06
Bar Hemingway at the Ritz
1st Arr. / Vendome
$$$$
Iconic / Black Tie Optional
No list of date night bars in Paris is complete without the Ritz. Bar Hemingway is small, hushed, and impeccably run under head bartender Colin Field, who has been shaking martinis there since 1994. The prices are high. The experience is higher. If you are going to spend serious money on a date in Paris, spend it here rather than on a restaurant you will not fully taste. Reservations are essential.
Order: A Clean Dirty Martini, their signature, made with 12 olives

Wine Bars and Natural Wine Dens for Dates
Paris's natural wine movement has produced the city's best new generation of date bars. The format, a small room, an interesting list, and food served without ceremony, is almost perfectly designed for two people who want to talk without the pressure of a full restaurant evening.
07
Le Servan Wine Bar
11th Arr.
$$
Natural Wine / Small Plates
The restaurant section of Le Servan requires a booking three weeks in advance. The wine bar at the front does not. Arrive at 7pm, take two stools at the zinc counter, and work through the natural wine list with the help of whoever is pouring that evening. The small plates are genuinely good. The wines are better. The light through the tall windows at dusk is the reason to arrive on time.
Order: Ask for something from the Loire Valley, skin-contact, with the cheese plate
08
Frenchie Bar a Vins
2nd Arr. / Sentier
$$$
Bistro Wine Bar / Warm
Greg Marchand's wine bar sits across the lane from his restaurant and operates on a first-come basis. The wine list is the same depth as the restaurant but served across a smaller, warmer room. The charcuterie and cheese boards are cut to order. Go on a Tuesday when the crowd is half the size and the conversation is double the quality. It is one of the most reliably good date bars in central Paris.
Order: Burgundy by the glass with the 28-day aged charcuterie board
09
Experimental Cocktail Club Paris
1st Arr.
$$$
Speakeasy / Classic Cocktail
The original ECC on Rue Saint-Sauveur opened in 2007 and helped establish Paris as a serious cocktail city. The room is modelled on a Prohibition-era New York bar, deliberately so, and the result is a dark, wood-panelled space where the conversation flows naturally and the cocktails are among the most technically precise in the city. The back tables are the best seats for a long date.
Order: The Paper Plane or a seasonal creation from the current menu
10
Danico
2nd Arr.
$$$
Chef-Driven / Cocktail Focus
Located inside the Experimental Group's Hotel National des Arts et Metiers, Danico is the project of bartender Nicolas de Soto, who trained at some of the most celebrated bars in New York before bringing his approach to Paris. The cocktail menu takes culinary technique seriously without becoming a laboratory. The ambiance hits the precise register between intimate and energised that makes a date feel like an event.
Order: The seasonal tasting flight, three small cocktails built around a single ingredient

How to Plan a Date Night in Paris
The best Paris date nights follow a simple sequence: natural wine bar first, cocktail bar second, and a late-night walk somewhere that ends in an argument about where to eat. Start in the Marais with Candelaria or Glass, move to the 1st or 2nd for Experimental or Danico, and finish wherever feels right. The full Paris date night guide covers 24 bars across every arrondissement.
If you are staying in Saint-Germain, the 6th arrondissement sequence works equally well. Bar du Marche at 7pm, La Closerie des Lilas at 9pm. Both are five minutes apart on foot. For a special occasion with a higher budget, the Ritz is 20 minutes by taxi and justifies every euro. The Paris cocktail bar guide has the full breakdown of the city's best drinking destinations.
