Berlin's live music bars berlin reputation is built on volume: the city has more music venues per capita than any other European capital. The problem this creates is that most lists of Berlin live music bars are essentially lists of clubs with occasional acoustic sets. This is not that list. These 10 venues all have functioning bars, genuine live music programmes, and the ability to deliver a good evening without requiring you to stay until 5am.
The Best Live Music Bars in Berlin: Jazz and Contemporary
Berlin's jazz scene is centred in Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte, with a handful of important outliers in Kreuzberg. The venues below represent the most consistent live jazz programming in the city across a 7-day week, not just on scheduled show nights.
01
A-Trane
Charlottenburg
$$
Jazz Club / Nightly
Berlin's most important dedicated jazz bar has operated on Bleibtreustrasse since 1992 with a nightly programme that draws both resident Berlin musicians and internationally touring acts. The room seats 80 and rarely has a bad angle. Late-night jam sessions on Saturday from midnight are free entry and frequently produce the most interesting music of the week. The bar is focused and well-priced for the quality of what is on stage.
Order: Whisky on the rocks or a simple cocktail. Save the complex drinks order for quieter venues.
02
B-Flat Acoustic Music and Jazz Club
Mitte
$$
Jazz / Acoustic / Nightly
A Rosenthaler Strasse jazz bar that programmes across jazz, acoustic soul, and experimental music seven nights a week. The Wednesday night jam session is free and pulls in Berlin's most interesting working musicians. The room is intimate at 120 capacity and the bar runs a full cocktail list that punches well above what the entrance fee suggests. One of the most consistent live music experiences in the city.
Order: The house Negroni or a bourbon Manhattan. Both are made well here.
03
Quasimodo
Charlottenburg
$$
Jazz / Blues / Rock
A basement venue under the Technical University that has been Berlin's most eclectic live music bar since 1975. The programme covers jazz, blues, soul, and occasionally rock with a booking approach that mixes established Berlin acts with touring internationals. The 350-capacity room has excellent acoustics for a basement and the bar is one of the few live music venues in Berlin with a genuinely good wine list.
Order: German Riesling by the glass or a Berlin craft beer draft

Kreuzberg and Neukölln: Live Music Berlin at Its Most Independent
Kreuzberg's live music venues operate outside the jazz club model entirely. These are bars that happen to have stages rather than venues that happen to have bars. The distinction matters: the atmosphere is looser, the programming is more experimental, and the prices are cheaper.
04
Monarch Bar
Kreuzberg
$
Bar / Experimental / Late
Above a Skalitzer Strasse supermarket, Monarch operates as Berlin's most proudly independent live music bar. The programme covers experimental electronic, post-punk, and occasionally jazz from about 21:00 most nights. The bar is cheap, the crowd is creative Berlin, and the venue has a genuine commitment to booking acts that are interesting rather than merely popular. No dress code, no guestlist culture.
Order: Beer by the bottle. The bar is not built for cocktails and does not pretend to be.
05
Lido
Kreuzberg
$$
Venue / Bar / Mixed Programme
A Cuvrystrasse venue that holds 600 and programmes across indie, electronic, and jazz with a consistency that makes it one of Berlin's most reliable mid-size live music destinations. The bar operates independently from the shows, which means you can arrive early and drink without paying the show entry. The sound system is the best in any Berlin venue at this price point.
Order: Draft Berliner Pilsner or the venue's house cocktail special
06
Sameheads
Neukölln
$
Bar / Gigs / Queer-Friendly
A Richardstrasse bar that books the most diverse live music programme in Neukölln across a week of shows that ranges from folk and ambient to noise and electronic. The space is decorated with an earnest maximalism that makes it feel like a living room belonging to someone with very specific taste. Affordable, welcoming, and consistently surprising in what it programmes.
Order: Whatever is cheapest on the draft list. Sameheads is not a destination for the drinks.

Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain: Berlin Live Music Bars with More Polish
The eastern neighbourhoods offer a middle ground between the raw independence of Kreuzberg and the dedicated professionalism of Charlottenburg's jazz clubs. These 4 venues have invested in their sound and their bar programmes without losing the neighbourhood character that makes them worth visiting.
07
Cassiopeia
Friedrichshain
$$
Outdoor Bar / Live Acts
Set inside the Revaler Strasse container park, Cassiopeia runs outdoor live music from April through October with a covered stage that protects the programme from Berlin's unpredictable summer weather. The bar serves craft beer and basic cocktails at outdoor prices, the crowd is reliably interesting, and the acts cover indie, electronic, and experimental in roughly equal measure. Best on warm Thursday evenings before the weekend crowds arrive.
Order: Craft beer from the outdoor bar or a simple spirit and mixer
08
Privatclub
Kreuzberg
$$
Club Bar / Live Acts / DJ
A Skalitzer Strasse venue that runs live music in the early evening before transitioning to DJs. The live programme covers jazz, neo-soul, and electroacoustic acts with a focus on Berlin-based musicians. The bar is a full cocktail operation with above-average technique and fair pricing. Arriving for the live sets at 20:00 gives you the best of both formats: music with seats, followed by dancing without them.
Order: The seasonal cocktail menu changes monthly. The Mezcal Sour is a consistent strong choice.
09
SO36
Kreuzberg
$$
Venue / Historic / Punk and Post-punk
The venue where David Bowie and Iggy Pop watched a Einsturzende Neubauten show in 1982 and where Berlin's independent music culture still has its most historically significant home. SO36 programmes from punk and post-punk through electronic and queer club nights with a consistency that 40 years of operation has not diminished. The bar is cheap, the shows are loud, and the audience is always more interesting than comparable venues.
Order: Beer in a can. This is the correct SO36 order.
10
Urban Spree
Friedrichshain
$$
Gallery Bar / Live Acts / Garden
A Revaler Strasse art gallery and bar space that hosts live music across a beer garden, indoor stage, and gallery annexe. The programme is eclectic in a way that works: folk on Tuesday, jazz on Thursday, indie at weekends. The bar runs a decent craft beer selection and simple cocktails. The garden is excellent in summer and genuinely one of East Berlin's best outdoor drinking destinations regardless of what is on stage.
Order: Draft craft beer or a Berliner Weisse with raspberry syrup for the garden

Our Verdict on Live Music Bars in Berlin
A-Trane is the essential starting point for anyone serious about Berlin live music bars. The Saturday midnight jam is free, consistently excellent, and unlike anything else the city produces. B-Flat covers the other six nights of the week with similar quality. For something outside the jazz format, SO36 and Monarch represent the city at its most distinctly Berlin.
The key insight about Berlin live music is that the best options are spread across four neighbourhoods with very different characters. A Kreuzberg evening and a Charlottenburg evening in the same city produce genuinely different experiences. We recommend planning by neighbourhood rather than venue type and letting the surroundings shape what you expect from the music.
