The 10 Best Bars in Berlin 2026

Berlin's bar scene is unlike any other in Europe. The city has cheap rent, no closing time, and a population that takes drinking seriously without taking itself seriously. The 10 below span Mitte to Kreuzberg, hotel bars to behind-the-bookcase rooms. Some have dress codes; most don't. Most stay open until something close to dawn.

The 10 best bars in Berlin

01 · Berlin
Buck and Breck

Twelve seats, reservations only, dress code enforced. Berlin's most controlled drinking experience and the technical reference for German cocktailing.

Order: Buck and Breck (cognac, sugar, absinthe, champagne)

02 · Berlin
Becketts Kopf

Through an unmarked door with Beckett's portrait above. Strict no-photography policy. The bar locals send only people they trust.

Order: Bartender's choice

03 · Berlin
Monkey Bar

On top of the 25hours Hotel. Direct view down into the Berlin Zoo. Cocktail program is more serious than the photo-bait might suggest.

Order: A spritz with the giraffes below

04 · Berlin
Velvet Bar

Velvet booths, low lights, mid-week DJ programming that's better than most clubs. The cocktails are unfussy but precise.

Order: A Manhattan, made the long way

05 · Berlin
Victoria Bar

Stefan Weber's room, opened 2001. Mid-century interior, quiet by Berlin standards. The bar industry's bar.

Order: A White Negroni

06 · Berlin
Lebensstern

Above an Italian restaurant. Eight hundred rums, leather chairs, library atmosphere. Berlin's most encyclopaedic spirits collection.

Order: A Daiquiri made with their reserve rum

07 · Berlin
Rum Trader

Twenty-two seats, reservation-only, classics-only. One of Berlin's oldest serious cocktail bars and still in the conversation.

Order: A Daiquiri (no shaking, just stirring)

08 · Berlin
Le Croco Bleu

Inside the former Bötzow brewery, with a stuffed crocodile suspended from the ceiling. Tropical-leaning cocktails in a deeply theatrical space.

Order: Their Tiki signature with the croc above you

09 · Berlin
Stagger Lee

American Western-themed bar with one of Germany's deepest whiskey lists. Looks like a film set; serves drinks like a serious bar.

Order: An Old Fashioned with their reserve rye

10 · Berlin
Kumpelnest 3000

Open since 1987 in a former brothel. Late-night Berlin institution. Drinks are simple; the room is the show. Open until very late.

Order: A vodka tonic, served fast

How Berlin drinks differently

Berlin is one of the rare cities where serious cocktail bars and serious dive bars exist on the same street and respect each other. Buck and Breck sets the technical bar; Kumpelnest 3000 sets the late-night one. Don't try to do all 10 in one night — pick a neighbourhood (Mitte for the polish, Kreuzberg for the grit) and commit. Most rooms get going around 10 PM.
