Pepe le Moko underground cocktail bar Portland Old Town
Cocktail Bar OLD TOWN
Pepe le Moko
Underground in the Park Lane Building, Pepe le Moko operates one of America's most focused cocktail programs. The 14-drink menu changes with the seasons and each drink earns its place. Arrive before 8pm to get a seat at the bar itself — that is where the conversation happens.
Breakside Brewery taproom craft beer Portland Dekum
Craft Beer DEKUM TRIANGLE
Breakside Brewery
Portland has more breweries than any American city its size and Breakside consistently sits at the top of that conversation. The Dekum taproom pours 20 rotating handles including experimental IPAs and barrel-aged stouts that do not appear anywhere else. The patio is open year-round with heaters.
Multnomah Whiskey Library speakeasy hidden gem Portland
Hidden Gem PEARL DISTRICT
Multnomah Whiskey Library
Over 1,500 bottles occupy the floor-to-ceiling shelves of this Pearl District institution. The membership waiting list used to stretch months but walk-ins now get a 45-minute window at the bar. Order the house barrel pick neat — it changes quarterly and it has never been disappointing.

Pearl District

Portland's gallery-district-turned-cocktail-destination packs more serious drinking establishments per block than anywhere else in the city. The Multnomah Whiskey Library and Botanist and Barrel anchor an area that rewards an unhurried evening on foot. Dress up slightly — the Pearl rewards the effort.

Southeast Division

Division Street is Portland's most democratic drinking strip — craft brewpubs, natural wine bars, mezcal rooms, and neighborhood dive bars all within a 12-block stretch. No reservations required for most. The scene peaks Thursday through Saturday from 7pm onward. Prices stay honest throughout.

Old Town / Chinatown

Portland's oldest neighbourhood has historically housed its grittiest bars, but the last five years brought Pepe le Moko and several serious cocktail programs that changed the street-level conversation. Come after dark when the neighbourhood has its own particular energy and the underground bars fill up.

Mississippi Avenue

North Mississippi is where Portland's independent bar culture keeps its most authentic character. No chains, no VIP sections — just well-made drinks at honest prices in spaces that have personality. The strip between Fremont and Skidmore is particularly good for an early-evening wander before committing to a spot.

Hawthorne

Southeast Hawthorne draws the creative-class crowd to its mix of book-lined cocktail rooms, Belgian beer cafes, and neighbourhood pubs. The stretch between 30th and 45th Avenue is especially dense with options. We recommend the bars on the south side of the street after 9pm on a weekend.

Dekum Triangle

North Portland's Dekum Triangle was the first neighbourhood to develop a serious brewery culture and it still hosts Breakside Brewery and several of the city's best taprooms. Quiet on weeknights, essential on weekend afternoons when the patios open and the neighborhood feels at its best.
