Sofia Bar Guide

30+ bars across Sofia's drinking neighbourhoods, curated by editors who know the city.

Sofia's bar scene is Eastern Europe's best-kept secret. The Soviet-era basements in the city centre now hold cocktail rooms. One More Bar has held a 50 Best Bars Eastern Europe position multiple years. The drinks lean rakia (Bulgarian fruit brandy), Bulgarian-honey wine, and craft beer. The bartenders trained in Berlin and London came home and built rooms that match those cities.

Five neighbourhoods cluster the action. Vitosha (the main pedestrian boulevard) is the bar-crawl spine. The Center holds the speakeasies and cocktail rooms. Lozenets runs the residential boutique-bar district. Studentski covers the student-area cocktail rooms. Mladost is the post-Soviet creative-class quarter.

Cocktails run BGN 14 to BGN 24 ($8 to $13). Rakia shots BGN 4 to BGN 8. Cheap. Tipping is 10 percent. Most bars run to 3am, weekend bars to 5am.
