Fleet Street Pub

Pubs Printers Alley, Downtown $$

Fleet Street Pub hides in a basement at 207 Printers Alley, a British and Irish pub that trades the Broadway noise for imported pints and dartboards. The name nods to London's old newspaper district, which fits a building once tied to Nashville's printing trade.

This is the room for people who want a proper pub rather than a honky-tonk or a cocktail den, and it is a poor match for anyone chasing a dance floor. Nashville Guru lists it as one of the few true British-style pubs downtown, which is the gap it fills.

The space is a low-ceilinged cellar reached by a staircase off the alley, with timber, a long bar, and darts toward the back. Printers Alley has run Nashville's nightlife since the 1940s, and Fleet Street is the quiet, beer-led counterweight to the music rooms around it. It stays comfortable even when the alley above is full.

Drink imported and on tap. The bar pours a rotating British and Irish beer selection alongside ciders and a short whisky list, and the kitchen turns out pub staples like fish and chips and bangers. This is a pint-and-a-plate room rather than a cocktail program, so order to that strength.

Best time to go is mid-evening on a weekday, when the cellar is calm enough to hear the table next to you and a stool at the bar is easy to claim. Hours run Sunday through Thursday from 11am to 1am and Friday and Saturday from 11am to 2am, so it holds late even on quieter nights.

It works for an expat after a real pint, a group wanting darts and beer away from the crowds, and a slow afternoon escape from Broadway. Skip it if you want cocktails or live music. Browse it in the Nashville bar guide, compare it across our pubs pillar, or read about the city's craft beer bars.
