Manolito

Cocktail Bars French Quarter $$$

Manolito occupies a small corner at 508 Dumaine Street in the French Quarter, a Cuban cocktail bar built around classic Havana technique. It opened in 2018 from the team of Chris Hannah, Nick Detrich, and Konrad Kantor, names that carry weight in New Orleans cocktail circles.

This is the room for people who care how a drink is made, and it is a tight fit for large groups or anyone after a fast round. Difford's Guide lists Manolito as a serious cocktail destination, and the bar is named for Manuel "Manolito" Carbajo Aguiar, a celebrated bartender from El Floridita in Havana.

The space is genuinely small, a few seats at the bar and a handful of tables, recently expanded with a courtyard that roughly doubled the room. The detail is Cuban throughout, from the tile to the music, and the bar is the stage. A short wait for a seat is normal, so treat it as part of the visit.

Order a daiquiri. The bartenders work in the Cantinero style of El Floridita, with blended and thrown drinks that arrive cold and balanced rather than sweet, and the daiquiri is the house benchmark. The kitchen backs the bar with Cuban plates, including ropa vieja and the Manolito frita, a smash burger blended with chorizo.

Best time to go is early on a weekday, when the few seats open before the Quarter fills. Manolito runs Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 11pm and Friday through Sunday from noon to 11pm, so an afternoon daiquiri is very much on the table.

It works for a cocktail pilgrimage, a quiet pair who want a great drink, and an afternoon break from the Quarter's heat. Skip it if you need a big table or a quick in-and-out. Find it among the best cocktail bars in New Orleans, browse the wider New Orleans bar guide, and compare it across our cocktail bars pillar.
