Bali's rooftop bar scene is defined by geography. Nowhere else on earth combines a cliff 70 meters above a surf break, an Indian Ocean horizon that turns amber at precisely 6:18pm, and a bartender who hand-pressed the lime juice that morning. The island's elevated drinking spots range from legendary international beach clubs in Seminyak to hidden terraces above rice paddies in Ubud, each one shaped by the landscape it sits within.
We visited 23 rooftop and elevated drinking venues across Bali's main regions to find the 9 that justify the trip. Not all of them require a swimsuit. Not all of them are Instagram-ready. All of them are genuinely worth your evening.
"The sunset from Single Fin at Uluwatu is the most dramatic drinking experience in Southeast Asia. Possibly anywhere."
The 9 Best Rooftop Bars in Bali
No. 01 · The Benchmark
Single Fin
Uluwatu, Bukit Peninsula · $$
Cliff Bar
Rooftop
Sunset
$$ · Daily · 8am–midnight
Single Fin sits on the cliff edge above Uluwatu's famous surf break, 70 meters above the Indian Ocean. The multi-level terrace faces directly west, which means the sunset here is not a bonus feature — it is the entire point. Sunday Sessions (weekly 4pm DJ event) draws 600 or more people in peak season. On a quieter weekday afternoon you can drink a cold Bintang with 6 surfers below you and the whole of the Indonesian ocean ahead. The cocktail list is solid rather than exceptional. Come for the view, stay for the show the light puts on between 5:30 and 7pm.
No. 02 · The Icon
Potato Head Beach Club
Seminyak · $$$
Beach Club
Pool Bar
International DJ
$$$ · Daily · 10am–midnight
Andra Matin's circular amphitheater architecture makes Potato Head the most photogenic beach club in Asia. The reclaimed window facade, the central pool, and the tiered terraces facing Seminyak Beach have been replicated across the continent with none of the original's conviction. The cocktail program here is genuinely serious: the bar team runs one of the most consistent tropical cocktail programs in Indonesia, with house-fermented fruit cordials and local botanical infusions that change seasonally. The music booking — typically international electronic acts on Saturdays — draws serious crowds. Book a sunbed for $40 or arrive at 10am to walk in.
Bali's bar scene extends well beyond beach clubs and hotel terraces. Our Bali bar guide covers all neighborhoods including Ubud, Canggu, and the Bukit Peninsula, with practical notes on getting between areas and which neighborhoods suit which types of traveler.
No. 03
Mrs Sippy
Seminyak · $$$
Rooftop Pool
Cocktail
Dress Code
$$$ · Daily · 11am–10pm
Mrs Sippy built its reputation on the rooftop infinity pool and the cocktail program that goes with it. The two-level terrace in North Seminyak draws a more curated crowd than Potato Head — the age skews late 20s to mid 30s, the dress code is enforced, and the music is quieter. The Aperol Spritz here is made with house lemongrass bitters and Balinese salak fruit syrup, which turns it into something categorically better than its Italian original. Day passes from IDR 250,000 include a drink credit. Worth the premium for the combination of pool, view, and genuine bar quality.
No. 04
La Favela
Seminyak · $$$
Multi-Level
Cocktail
DJ Nights
$$$ · Daily · 6pm–3am
La Favela's upper terrace and rooftop garden occupy a converted Dutch colonial mansion draped in tropical plants and illuminated by hundreds of lanterns. It is Bali's most theatrical venue and among Asia's most photographed. But dismiss it as purely aesthetic at your peril: the cocktail team here is strong and the rum selection particularly good. The rooftop terrace operates from 8pm. The resident DJs (Thursday to Sunday) play house music of actual quality. The garden level below operates as a restaurant until 11pm, after which the whole property becomes a single event space.
No. 05
KU DE TA
Seminyak · $$$
Beach Club
Rooftop
Date Night
$$$ · Daily · 9am–midnight
KU DE TA predates the current wave of Bali beach clubs by a decade and in many ways defined what they aspire to. The elevated beach terrace on Jalan Kayu Aya faces directly onto Seminyak Beach with an unobstructed view of the horizon. Sundowner service — a coconut cocktail brought to your sunbed at 5:30pm sharp — remains the island's most civilized ritual. The food here is better than most beach clubs manage. A single large table for 8 on the upper terrace is bookable for dinner and represents one of Bali's best date-night value propositions.
No. 06
Revolver
Seminyak · $$
Hidden Gem
Cocktail
Upper Terrace
$$ · Daily · 7am–11pm
Found through a narrow alley in Seminyak — the entrance is unmarked and easy to miss — Revolver is Bali's most serious cocktail bar and operates across two narrow levels plus a small upper terrace. The daytime coffee program (the espresso here is genuinely excellent) transitions into cocktails from 5pm. The Espresso Martini is made with a single-origin Balinese robusta and is the most requested drink on the island. The upper terrace seats 10 and overlooks the alley. Small, intimate, and completely different from the beach clubs surrounding it.
For visitors coming to Bali primarily for the cocktail bars rather than the beach clubs, our guide to the best cocktail bars in Bali covers the more intimate bars — including Revolver and several Canggu spots — in full detail.
No. 07
Motel Mexicola
Seminyak · $$
Tropical
Cocktail
Rooftop Garden
$$ · Daily · noon–midnight
Motel Mexicola's riot of tropical color, Mexican folk art, and tiled surfaces extends across three levels to an upper bar decorated with hanging plants and festoon lighting. The cocktail menu leans tropical and tequila-heavy: the Jalisco Sour (tequila blanco, tamarind, chipotle salt, pineapple) is the house signature and delivers. The food is excellent and the kitchen serves until midnight. The rooftop gets booked out by groups on weekends; arrive as a pair by 7pm to secure seats at the bar rail with the view of Seminyak's rooftops and the distant ocean strip.
No. 08
The Lawn Canggu
Canggu · $$
Beachfront
Sunset
Walk-In
$$ · Daily · 10am–11pm
Canggu's best elevated drinking spot is a two-level garden bar and terrace right on the beach at Echo Park. The Lawn is less polished than the Seminyak clubs and considerably more relaxed, which suits the neighborhood. The crowd is a mix of surfers, digital nomads who live nearby, and visitors who found the vibe and stayed for the evening. Cocktails are around IDR 100,000 to 150,000 — half the price of Potato Head. The upper deck faces the surf break at Echo Beach and the sunset alignment is perfect from October to April. Walk-in only; no reservations, no sunbed fees.
No. 09
Sari Organik Rooftop, Ubud
Ubud · $
Rice Field Views
Organic
Daytime Only
$ · Daily · 8am–5pm
The only entry on this list that closes before dark, Sari Organik operates above the Tjampuhan rice fields north of Ubud's center. The upper platform seats 16 and overlooks a working organic farm that supplies the kitchen. Drinks are largely non-alcoholic — fresh juices, cold-pressed ginger shots, and the best coconut water on the island — with a small cocktail list using local spirits. The daytime view of the terraced rice paddies is the single most peaceful hour of drinking available anywhere in Bali. The walk to reach it (20 minutes each way through the paddies) is part of the experience.
Practical Guide to Bali's Rooftop Bar Scene
Seminyak holds the highest concentration of quality elevated bars — Potato Head, Mrs Sippy, KU DE TA, La Favela, and Motel Mexicola are all within a 15-minute walk of each other. Gojek (Bali's Grab/Uber equivalent) makes getting between them cost-effective. A Gojek car from Seminyak to Uluwatu costs IDR 60,000 to 80,000 — about $4 USD.
Sunset times vary by season. Between May and September, sunset is around 6pm. Between November and February, it runs closer to 6:30pm. All the cliff-top and beach-facing bars in Seminyak and Uluwatu position their chairs to face west. Single Fin at Uluwatu has the clearest western horizon of any bar on the island.
Peak season (July, August, and the Christmas week) brings capacity crowds to the major beach clubs. Book sunbeds at Potato Head, Mrs Sippy, and KU DE TA at least 3 days ahead during these periods. In shoulder season (May, June, October, November) walk-ins are almost always possible, even at the flagship venues.
