Marcus covers the US West Coast, Miami and Latin America for barsforKings. He is a former hotel bartender (Miami, four years) who came to writing after running cocktail programmes at two boutique hotels and realising he preferred reviewing rooms to running them. He has been on staff at barsforKings since 2017.

His coverage is anchored in Los Angeles and Miami, where he has tables under his name at most of the bars on his rankings — a fact the editors discreetly verify each year. His Latin American beat covers Mexico City, São Paulo, Rio, Buenos Aires, Medellín and Bogotá; he files in English and Spanish, and has a reading working knowledge of Portuguese.

Marcus has strong views about the casual-luxury cocktail scene of West Hollywood and Coral Gables, why most rooftop bars in Miami are running a rehearsed script that does not survive a second visit, and which Mexico City mezcalerias actually deserve their international press.

He runs barsforKings' annual Latin American rankings and is the lead editor on the proposal and anniversary occasion guides for the West Coast cities.
