Who writes barsforKings, how every page is researched and checked, and the independence rules we will not break.

barsforKings is an independent editorial publication owned and operated by Kings Hospitality LLC. This page sets out who creates our content, how it is researched and checked, and the standards every page is held to. For the bar-by-bar scoring detail, see our Methodology.
Every guide is written by a named member of our editorial team — not anonymous staff and not freelancers paid per word. Each author page lists the writer's background, the cities and categories they cover, and links to their professional profiles. Articles carry a visible byline that links to the author's page.
No bar appears on barsforKings without an editor having physically visited it within the past 18 months, and ranked bars are visited at least twice on different nights. Editorial claims — address, price band, opening hours, menu detail — are verified against primary sources at the time of publication.
Every editorial claim is checked by a second editor before publication. Co-founders Fredrik Filipsson and Morten Andersen personally approve every entry in their coverage areas (US, Middle East and Asia desks; European desk respectively). Specialist categories are assigned to the editor with the most direct experience of that category and city — we do not put a generalist byline on specialist content.
City hub and city-by-category pages are reviewed every 90 days. Individual bar pages are reviewed at least annually, and sooner if a venue changes ownership, location or concept. When we re-report a page, we update its last updated date; we do not re-date pages purely to appear fresh to search engines.
Editorial coverage cannot be bought. Bars cannot pay to be listed, to rank higher, or to have their pages updated more favourably. Sponsorship and display advertising are clearly labelled Sponsored and never influence what we include or how we rank it. Affiliate reservation links are disclosed and do not affect coverage. barsforKings is written by people. We do not publish AI-generated reviews. AI tools may be used internally for limited, non-editorial support tasks (for example, drafting alt text or checking spelling), but every published judgement — what to list, how to rank it, what to say about it — is made and signed off by a named human editor who has visited the venue.
