The Western Bar in Friedrichshain does exactly what a neighbourhood craft beer bar should do: stocks 18 rotating taps from German and international craft producers, prices them honestly, and creates an environment where people stay for three hours without noticing. The space is deliberately unpretentious. Wooden furniture, exposed brick, a back garden that opens from April through October.

The prices are reasonable: most pints cost between 5 and 7 euros, which is fair for the quality. This accessibility is intentional. The Western does not exist to impress anyone. It exists to serve Friedrichshain with good beer and a place to be.
The garden is one of the reasons locals keep coming back. During summer months, the bar extends into a covered outdoor space where you can sit with a beer, watch the neighbourhood go by, and not feel like you are paying premium prices for the experience. The garden hosts occasional live music during summer, but nothing too loud or precious. The focus stays on the beer and the company.
