South William Street, Dublin
Dublin's Heritage 1899 Literary Pub
Grogan's Castle Lounge is the heritage Dublin literary pub — operating since 1899 in the same wood-panelled room. Brendan Behan, Patrick Kavanagh, and Flann O'Brien drank here daily. The most unselfconsciously heritage pub in Dublin.
The signature is the Grogan's toastie — buttered bread with cheese, served at the bar. Cheap pints (Guinness, Irish craft beer), no music, no televisions, no pretensions. The crowd is Dublin literary-class 40-80 and visiting heritage tourists.
Pair with Mulligans for a complete Dublin literary heritage pub evening.
