Our Take

New Town's Heritage Scottish Ale Pub

The Cumberland Bar is New Town's most heritage Scottish ale pub — operating in a Georgian basement since the 1800s. Original tile work, mahogany bar, gas-style lighting. Real ales from Scottish craft breweries (Williams Bros, Innis & Gunn, Stewart Brewing).

The cocktail program is basic but properly built. The food menu serves heritage Scottish pub plates (haggis, neeps and tatties, Cullen skink). Beer garden in summer. The crowd is New Town locals 30-60.

Pair with The Bow Bar for a more whisky-focused heritage pub.

Innis & Gunn
Edinburgh-brewed bourbon-barrel-aged beer. The local default.
