Beyoğlu, Istanbul
Istanbul's 1876 Belle Époque Meyhane Passage
Çiçek Pasajı — meaning 'Flower Passage' — is a heritage 1876 covered passage off Istanbul's main shopping street, İstiklal Caddesi. The passage contains multiple traditional Turkish meyhanes — taverns serving raki and meze — under a single Belle Époque roof.
The format is unique to Istanbul. Each meyhane has its own menu but the format is shared: raki served chilled with water in shared bottles, meze plates passed around the table, slow conversation. The room is preserved 1876 with stained glass and chandeliers.
The crowd is heritage tourists, Istanbul regulars, and travellers seeking authentic Turkish meyhane culture. Pair with the wider Beyoğlu bar scene for a complete evening.
