One Room, One Rig, All Night
Phonox sits on Brixton Road in the space that used to be Plan B, a short walk from Brixton station. It runs on a simple idea that Time Out and Resident Advisor both keep returning to: one dance floor, one great soundsystem, and DJs who play long. There is no second room to drift to and no VIP tier to buy past. You come for the music or you do not come.
The format is the point. Saturdays put a single DJ on the Funktion One rig for the whole night, so the set has room to build instead of cramming a guest list. This is a club for people who want to lose a night to one booth, not a bar for a quiet pint. If you want conversation, go earlier and elsewhere.
It is intimate by London club standards: a single low-ceilinged room built around the dance floor and the Funktion One stack. The bar runs along the side so you are never far from the music. The design keeps sightlines on the booth, which is exactly what the all-night-set policy needs.
Two formats anchor the week. The 4 Fridays at Phonox series hands a month of Fridays to one host, who curates four weeks of guests around their own sound. Past runs have gone to names like Saoirse and Ross From Friends, per the club's listings. Saturdays drop the theme entirely and let one resident or guest run the full night.
Plan the door. Entry is free before 9pm on Fridays and before 10pm on Saturdays, which is the cheap way in if you arrive early. Doors open around 9pm and the night runs late, often to 4am. The club programmes Friday and Saturday, with select Sunday events, so check the calendar before a midweek trip.
- A serious electronic night where the DJ plays a full, building set
- An early free entry before 9pm Friday or 10pm Saturday
- A Brixton late one within three minutes of the station
