Our Take on Swift

Swift opened in 2016 on Old Compton Street and became one of those bars that the Soho regulars kept to themselves for longer than was fair. It runs two entirely separate drinking experiences across two floors. Upstairs: a bright, social bar with a cocktail list built for easy drinking and good conversation. Downstairs: a deliberately dark, unhurried room with 400 whiskeys on the back bar, tight leather seating, and a cocktail menu that assumes you know what you are doing.

The bar team, founded by Bobby and Mia Horrocks, runs one of the most technically accomplished operations in London. The seasonal menus upstairs refresh regularly and consistently hit. The downstairs list is structured around spirits in a way that rewards exploration: if you are curious about Irish whiskey, Scotch, or Japanese, the team will steer you honestly and well. The Daiquiri is one of the best in London. The Old Fashioned is measured by a standard that most bars in the city do not reach.

Swift works for almost any occasion a Soho night might throw at it. Post-work in a group, solo at the downstairs bar, or a first date that you want to go well. It is one of those bars that the city's bar industry visits on their nights off, which tells you everything you need to know.

What to Order

Daiquiri
One of the best in London. White rum, fresh lime, sugar. Served in a coupe at the right temperature. The purists' test for any cocktail bar, and Swift passes it easily.
Old Fashioned
Downstairs menu. Bourbon or rye, your choice. Stirred down with house-made sugar syrup and bitters that the bar makes itself. The benchmark version in Soho.
Whiskey Flight
Three measures from the 400-bottle back bar, curated by the bartender to a theme or region of your choosing. Ask the team. The answer will always be interesting.
Seasonal Signature
The upstairs menu rotates quarterly. Always one or two genuinely clever builds. Ask what is new — the bar team explains each drink without overselling it.
Irish Coffee
Swift makes one of London's most reliable Irish coffees. Proper Jameson, strong filter coffee, and whipped cream floated correctly. Order it if you want to slow the evening down.
Best Time to Visit
Weekday evenings from 5pm for an unhurried experience. If you want the downstairs bar on a Friday or Saturday, arrive by 6:30pm. It fills and stays full until close.
Who It Is For
Whiskey enthusiasts who want to explore without pressure. After-work Soho regulars. Anyone who thinks a great Daiquiri is a reasonable ambition for a Tuesday evening.
Insider Note
Go downstairs first. If it is full, wait. Cocktails run £13 to £18, making Swift one of the better-value serious bars in central London. The Irish Coffee is priced at £10 and is non-negotiable as a closing drink.
