A Decade of Cocktails in an Old Butcher's Shop

Three Eight Four took its name from its address, 384 Coldharbour Lane, a few steps from Brixton station. The premises had once sold horsemeat during postwar rationing, and the bar kept the raw, industrial bones of the old butcher's shop. The result was a low lit, moody room that felt distinct from the louder market bars around the corner.

The team behind Brixton Market's Seven opened it as a sister spot, pairing experimental cocktails with sharing plates. Time Out and The Nudge both filed it as one of Brixton's more serious drinks rooms, where the bartending got real attention rather than being an afterthought to the food. Cocktails started around 6 pounds, which kept it accessible in a part of London where prices climbed sharply over the decade it traded.

The drinks list mixed tongue in cheek house creations with a tidy run of classics. Local reviewers singled out the inventive end of the menu, the sort of cocktail built around a home infusion or a playful garnish, as the reason regulars came back. Best of South West LDN marked its tenth year on the lane, a long run for an independent bar in a churning stretch of Brixton hospitality.

By 2025 that churn caught up with Coldharbour Lane. Brixton Buzz documented a wave of closures along the street, and Three Eight Four was among the venues that did not survive. The site no longer trades under the name, so we keep this page as a record rather than a recommendation.

If you are after a Brixton cocktail night now, our Brixton bars guide and the wider London cocktail bars list point to the rooms still open nearby.

What They Were Known For
House Cocktails
The inventive end of the list, built on home infusions and playful presentation. The reason regulars returned over a decade.
Classics Done Properly
A short run of the standards, made with the same care as the house drinks. A safe order on any visit.
Sharing Plates
Small plates designed to graze over a round, run as a sister kitchen to Brixton Market's Seven.
The Room Itself
A converted butcher's shop kept dark and industrial. The setting was as much the draw as the menu.
