Our Take on Ex Salumeria
Vico Pazzariello is a crease in the old city near Via Candelora, the kind of alley Naples keeps for its best secrets. The deli that once traded here gave the bar its name, and Ex Salumeria, which Tripadvisor lists as La Bottega del Rum, now stocks the shelves with rum instead of salami. The room is small, the music is loud, and the tables spill onto a little square.
Rum carries the whole list. The bar runs seven house infusions and builds its cocktails on Caribbean rum, organic ingredients, and homemade syrups and shrubs, a program Everybody Hates a Tourist ranks among the best cocktail stops in Naples.
Yelp reviewers land on the same three notes: expertly made rum cocktails, friendly bartenders with showmanship, and prices that undercut every comparable room in the center.
Reading the Room
Inside, the old shop bones still show, with bottles where the counter goods used to sit. A handful of seats face the bartenders, and the rest of the night happens outdoors on the square.
The alley setting does real work. On warm evenings the crowd stands between the tables, and the bar becomes the corner it occupies.
The Menu, Edited
Who Shows Up, and When
The room draws the young center city crowd that drinks where the bartenders have opinions. Evenings start slow and build past midnight, with the square at its fullest on Friday and Saturday.
Foursquare logs nearly a hundred check ins for a room this size, which says enough about the loyalty.
