Reserve a Table More Date Night BarsOur Take on Sir Winston
Sir Winston has been doing what it does at Aker Brygge for long enough to have become part of Oslo's dating infrastructure. The bar occupies a corner of the waterfront complex that captures the harbour lights after dark, and its interior of dark wood, leather banquettes, and warm amber lighting has the quiet confidence of a room that does not need to try. It is one of those bars where you feel immediately calmer after sitting down.
The drinks list is broad by design: cocktails covering the classics and a house selection, a wine list with genuine depth in French and Italian bottles, and a spirits shelf that includes aged whiskies worth exploring. The bar does not have a signature identity beyond doing most things well, which is exactly what you want when you are not sure what the evening will call for. The bar food is better than the waterfront location would suggest.
For a first date, Sir Winston works because the atmosphere does half the work for you. For a regular couple, it works because reliability matters. We recommend the harbour terrace on a warm summer evening, and the inside booth in winter when the windows reflect the water lights back at the room. Sir Winston sits alongside Bar Bocca as the waterfront's two best choices for a serious evening, with different registers of formality for different occasions.
