Vinohradský Pivovar

BrewpubVinohrady$$

Vinohradský Pivovar stands on Korunní in Vinohrady, Prague 10, on the site of a brewery whose roots reach back to 1894. The modern brewpub revived the address from 2013 and now brews its own lager on the premises.

The pitch is a proper Vinohrady brewpub, fresh house lager and Czech food in a restored brewery hall, not a cocktail stop. Anyone after a quiet wine bar should look elsewhere, because the draw is the tank beer and the kitchen.

The history is part of the appeal. The original brewery once made as much as 200,000 hectolitres in a season, and the current owners rebuilt the site from 2013, adding a second production facility in Káraný outside Prague in 2022, as Expats.cz reported.

The beer is the reason to come. The house pours Vinohradská 11, an unpasteurised and unfiltered pilsner style lager that is the top seller, alongside Vinohradská 12 and the amber Jantar 13. Order the unpasteurised 11 fresh from the tank.

The kitchen keeps pace. The brewpub serves Czech plates built to sit beside the lager, which makes it a long lunch or dinner spot as much as a drinking one, and the restored hall gives it room that smaller taprooms lack.

Timing favours the off peak. Vinohrady fills at weekends and the hall is popular, so a weekday or an early sitting is the calmer window, and a booking helps at peak times.

Getting there is simple. Korunní runs through the heart of Vinohrady, well served by tram, which puts the brewery within an easy walk of the district's other beer halls and wine bars.

Best time to go is a weekday for fresh tank lager and a quieter hall. Who it is for: lager drinkers, beer tourists and anyone after Czech food with the pint. See our best craft beer in Prague guide, our Prague beer editorial, and the worldwide craft beer pillar.
