Coda

Cocktail Bar Cocktail Bars $$$ Vila Buarque

Coda opened on Rua Barao de Tatui in Vila Buarque as the return of Ale D'Agostino, one of the most respected names in Sao Paulo bartending, to a room of his own.

Anyone who wants serious drinks without a velvet rope will feel at home. Anyone after bottle service and a dance floor will not, because the bar trades on warmth and a quiet bar craft rather than spectacle.

The name borrows a musical term for the passage that closes a piece, and the room follows the idea. Cement walls, low sofas, intimate lighting and a piano that comes to life in short performances set a tone closer to a living room than a cocktail lab. CNN Brasil Viagem e Gastronomia covered the opening and framed the bar around authoral drinks and alma musical, a musical soul.

D'Agostino builds the list around infusions, spices and unusual ingredients, alongside several versions of the Negroni that anchor the menu. Order one of the house Negroni builds to read his style, then move to a seasonal drink, because the original work is the reason to come. Esquire Brasil described the bar as good drinks without formality, which matches the room.

The bar runs from early evening into the night, Tuesday through Saturday, which makes it a strong first stop in a neighbourhood that has filled with new rooms. Vila Buarque sits a short walk from the Consolacao and Santa Cecilia metro stops, so it works as the opening move of a longer night.

Pricing sits in the city's middle to upper range, fair for a bar from a bartender with this reputation. The calmest version comes midweek, when the counter has room and the piano carries the room. Friday and Saturday fill early, and the sofas turn over slowly.

The crowd mixes industry regulars who follow D'Agostino with Vila Buarque locals and couples on a first date. The volume stays conversational, and the room is built for people who came to talk over a good drink.
