Our Take on Needle & Thread
Needle and Thread is hidden above Tavern Law at 1406 12th Ave on Capitol Hill, in the historic Trace Lofts building. The Infatuation treats it as one of the city's defining special-occasion bars, reached by picking up an antique telephone in the back of Tavern Law and stepping through a vault door.
The concept is a reservation-first speakeasy with no printed cocktail menu. The bartender reads your tastes and builds a drink from scratch, which is ideal for a date or a celebration and wrong for anyone who wants to order fast off a list.
The room sets the tone. Needle and Thread seats up to 36 guests in a candlelit space of antique furniture and dark wood, deliberately small and quiet. Punch has covered the Tavern Law and Needle and Thread pairing as a landmark of Seattle's cocktail scene.
The service is the draw. Your bartender learns your mood and the flavors you like, then composes something original and finished to order, unlike anything on a printed list. Booking runs through OpenTable up to six days ahead for parties of one to six, with walk-ins welcome if space allows.
