What this place is and who it is for
Live Twice sits on Bukit Pasoh Road in a restored shophouse, the third venue from the Jigger and Pony group after the original on Amoy Street and Gibson on Bukit Pasoh. It opened in October 2021 and entered Asia's 50 Best Bars list in 2022, ranking 38 in 2023 and rising to 35 in 2024.
It works for a 7pm counter seat for a highball flight or a late dinner-into-drinks shift on a banquette. Avoid if the goal is a quick stop or a budget cocktail: the 26 SGD floor on builds and the booking-only policy make it a destination bar, not a walk-in. The Infatuation Singapore called the highball programme “the most considered in the city” in its 2023 cocktail bar review.
What the space feels like
A 36-seat ground floor with a 14-seat counter on the south wall, four banquette booths on the north, and a single private nook behind a noren curtain. The interior is by designer Asylum and modelled on a 1960s Tokyo lounge; dark walnut panelling, low ceilings, brass detailing, and a Japanese ice well behind the bar. SCMP's 2022 Singapore bar feature described the room as “the closest Singapore gets to a Ginza counter without the eight-hour flight.” The lighting drops to candlelight after 9pm.
What to order, what to skip
Order the Smoke and Mirrors Highball (28 SGD) built on Suntory Toki, charcoal-roasted barley, and a peated mist; it is the drink that landed Live Twice on the 50 Best list. Pair it with the chawanmushi-and-uni small plate (24 SGD). Skip the off-menu freestyle requests, which Asia's 50 Best 2024 panel noted run weaker than the printed programme. The Yuzu Negroni (26 SGD) uses a house-blended Italicus base and is what the bartenders pour when guests ask for the cleanest aperitivo build on the menu.
Who shows up and when
Two clear shifts. From 6pm to 8pm the counter fills with hospitality-industry regulars from Tippling Club and Native ahead of their own shifts, and the banquettes hold an early-dinner crowd of 30-something Singapore professionals. From 8pm to midnight the room turns to a mix of Tanjong Pagar finance, hotel concierge referrals, and the cocktail-tourist trail. Drinks International's 2023 Top 50 feature called it “the Singapore counter the bartender community drinks at on their own night off.
When to walk in
Live Twice runs two shifts and the right one depends on the goal. From 6pm to 8pm the counter is the spot for a highball flight with the lead bartender and a walk-in works for a pair if it lands within 15 minutes of open. From 8pm to midnight the bar runs at peak service, the banquettes are 100 percent booked, and the counter seats turn over once. After 11pm the room is mostly hospitality-trade nightcap. Tuesday and Wednesday are the easiest nights for a counter walk-in; Friday and Saturday require a reservation seven days out. Monday is closed. The omakase pairing at 88 SGD runs only on Tuesday and Wednesday and is the right order for a first visit.
What regulars say
Pick this if
- A 7pm highball flight at the counter with a reservation
- A Tuesday omakase pairing for a first visit
- A late dinner-into-drinks evening on a banquette
- Avoid for a budget cocktail or a large group of six or more
