Origin Bar runs in the lobby of the Shangri-La Singapore on Orange Grove Road, a nine-minute walk from Orchard MRT and a covered drop-off from the hotel. The bar opened in its current form in 2018 as the hotel's gin-led venue and was refurbished in 2022 with the 90-label gin wall that is the room's identifying detail. Order the Origin G and T (26 SGD), built on Sipsmith London Dry with a cardamom-and-pink-pepper tonic and a grapefruit zest; the bartenders prepare it table-side from a copper trolley. Pair it with the smoked-trout-and-cucumber tea sandwiches (22 SGD). Skip the cocktail-list deep cuts; the Singapore Cocktail Bar Association Telegram channel consistently flags the printed G and T list as the strong move. The gin flight at 48 SGD for four pours runs the country tour of the wall and is what the bartenders pour when guests ask for an education-led order.

Who shows up and when

Two shifts. From 3pm to 7pm the room runs a hotel-guest and afternoon-tea crowd with about a 40 percent occupancy. From 7pm to midnight the room fills with Orchard finance, Shangri-La residents-club guests, and the gin-tourist trail. When to walk in

Origin Bar runs two shifts and the right one depends on the goal. The 3pm to 7pm afternoon shift is the easiest walk-in and the right window for the gin-flight education at the counter. The 7pm to midnight shift is the iconic Origin experience for a club-chair G and T with a hotel-stay group; a walk-in works on weekdays but a reservation is recommended Friday and Saturday. Sunday closes at 11pm and is the quietest seat in Orchard for a Sunday-evening nightcap. The gin flight at 48 SGD runs only at the counter and is the right first-visit order; book the flight 24 hours ahead.
