Den Gyldene Freden, meaning 'The Golden Peace', is a heritage 1722 tavern in Gamla Stan. The bar is owned by the Swedish Academy and has been operating continuously for three centuries. The interior is preserved 18th century, wooden beams, antique cabinets, original art on the walls.
The drinks are simple, Swedish beer, akvavit, basic wine. The food is traditional Swedish, pickled herring, gravlax, meatballs, knäckebröd. The bar functions as much as a museum as a drinking establishment.
The crowd is heritage tourists, older Stockholm professionals, and visitors drawn by the history. Pair with Pharmarium for a complete Gamla Stan heritage evening.
