Gamla Stan, Stockholm
Stockholm's 1722 Tavern Owned by the Swedish Academy
Den Gyldene Freden — meaning 'The Golden Peace' — is a heritage 1722 tavern in Gamla Stan. The bar is owned by the Swedish Academy and has been operating continuously for three centuries. The interior is preserved 18th century — wooden beams, antique cabinets, original art on the walls.
The drinks are simple — Swedish beer, akvavit, basic wine. The food is traditional Swedish — pickled herring, gravlax, meatballs, knäckebröd. The bar functions as much as a museum as a drinking establishment.
The crowd is heritage tourists, older Stockholm professionals, and visitors drawn by the history. Pair with Pharmarium for a complete Gamla Stan heritage evening.
