Hosoi

Listening Bar Cocktail Bars $$$

Hosoi occupies the Forbindelsehallen hall in Stockholm's Slakthusomradet, a listening bar that the venue's own programming and guides such as Resident Advisor describe as one of the city's most carefully tuned rooms for sound.

Who would love it: people who treat the music as the main event and want cocktails and small plates around it. Who would skip it: anyone after a loud club floor, because the room is built for listening rather than dancing.

The space pairs the industrial bones of the old meatpacking district with warm wood and a Scandinavian Japanese feel. The draw, by the bar's own account, is an audiophile grade system with high fidelity speakers calibrated so records play the way they were cut.

Drinks arrive in weighted glassware alongside sharing plates with clean flavours, and the cocktail list is built to sit quietly under the music rather than compete with it. The format leans closer to a wine and cocktail listening lounge than a high volume bar.

Best time to go is Wednesday or Thursday evening for the calmer vinyl sets, or Friday and Saturday when the room runs later to one in the morning. It opens at five in the evening on its operating nights.

It widens the picture of where to drink in Stockholm beyond the centre. Set it against the best cocktail bars in Stockholm, and for a different counter built on craft compare it with Tjoget or the precise list at Little Quarter.
