Riche does not try to be anything other than what it is: a very good brasserie bar with over 130 years of practice. The room works because it has never been renovated into irrelevance. The brass gleams, the stools are the right height, and the noise level allows actual conversation. These things matter, and they are harder to achieve than they look.
The wine list is the real draw. Riche takes wine seriously in a way that most Stockholm bars simply don't. You can order something interesting by the glass here, not just the house pour. The cocktail menu skews classic with Nordic inflections — a Martini made with local gin, an Old Fashioned finished with Swedish spirits. For those visiting the Stockholm bar scene for the first time, Riche represents the city's established, professional side rather than its experimental edge. Both have merit, but Riche remains reliable in a way that newer venues haven't yet earned.
The terrace on Birger Jarlsgatan runs from May to September and is one of the best spots in Stockholm to spend a warm evening. The outdoor tables fill fast on Fridays — arrive by 5:30pm if you want one. For the experimental end of Stockholm drinking, the Pharmarium in Gamla Stan offers a very different but equally compelling experience. Our Stockholm after-work guide covers the full range.
