What Jimmy Glass Is
Jimmy Glass has run jazz at Calle Baja 28 in El Carmen since 1991. DownBeat magazine put it on its list of the world's best jazz clubs in February 2018, the only Valencia room to make the cut.
The programming does the talking. The club stages four concerts most weeks: international acts Monday through Wednesday, then singing duos, jam sessions and piano nights through the weekend.
Midweek tickets cost 13 euros. The weekend sessions are free until the room fills.
Reading the Room
A narrow club hung with decades of posters, built for listening rather than lounging.
Tripadvisor reviewers flag tight seating and limited sightlines from some tables. Arrive before the first set and the problem disappears.
The Menu, Edited
Who Shows Up, and When
Jazz fans, conservatory students and working musicians. The club's own history page calls it the favorite spot for Valencia jazz players, and the bandstand traffic backs the claim.
The audience listens. Talkers feel the room turn on them by the second tune.
What Regulars Say
- DownBeat ranked it among the best jazz clubs in the world in February 2018.
- The club has held the same Calle Baja address since 1991.
- Sets run 8:45pm to 11:45pm with a half hour intermission on international nights.
- The repeated advice on Tripadvisor: arrive early, the good sightlines go first.
Who It Is For
- Serious listeners who want a program, not a playlist.
- A date that needs 13 euros of proof you have taste.
- Avoid if you want to talk over the band. This room takes sides.
