Philadelphia drinks after work without ceremony. The city runs taprooms, oyster bars and a couple of corner rooms that have fed and watered the same neighborhoods for years, and the standard order is a good draft and a snack rather than a built cocktail. We judged these on the drink and the room.

For one stop, make it Good Dog Bar for the burger and a beer. For a night, start at The Oyster House over a martini and a dozen, then work toward Fishtown and Kensington Quarters.
Philadelphia rewards drinking close to where you live. Pick the neighborhood, order the draft, and eat the bar food. The after work scene runs on good rooms doing simple things well.
