Copenhagen sits on flat ground, so its rooftops trade dizzying height for clean, wide light across red roofs, harbor and spires. The list below runs the terraces worth the climb, from Christianshavn and Tivoli to Carlsberg and Nordhavn. Most open with the warm season.
ROOF crowns the NH Collection on Strandgade in Christianshavn, eight floors up and reading the harbor at eye level. The light is the draw, cleanest from April through October when the terrace opens to the public. Order a signature cocktail around DKK 145 and climb up before sunset. The heated pergola stays open year round for private events.
The Rooftop Bar tops Brochner's Hotel Danmark on Vester Voldgade, a seventh-floor perch with a 360-degree read of the old town, the National Museum and Tivoli. It runs walk-ins only through the warm months. Come Friday for the Up Sessions DJ nights, take a craft beer or a cocktail near DKK 145, and time it for the long northern dusk.
Nimb Roof sits three floors above Tivoli, on top of the Nimb Hotel beside the gardens, the most exclusive terrace on this list. Access is reservations only and usually limited to hotel guests and Nimb Club members, though select summer evenings open to the public. Expect curated cocktails around DKK 150. Pair the view with French plates from the Nimb Brasserie below.
Illum Rooftop wraps the fourth floor of the Illum department store on Stroget, less a single bar than a row of restaurants, cafes and counters along a terrace that bends around the building. It suits a shopping break or an early dinner as the sun drops. Cocktails run about DKK 125. Locals point to Original Coffee for the cleanest view.
Level Six tops the Scandic Norreport on Frederiksborggade, a sixth-floor lounge that pairs a polished indoor bar with a sunny terrace. The list leans on Tiki builds and classics, cocktails near DKK 135, walk-ins only. Go for afternoon sun or a DJ-led evening. In winter the terrace turns cozy with hot chocolate and Christmas lights.
KOLO crowns the boutique Hotel Skt. Annae near Nyhavn, a sixth-floor rooftop that serves breakfast until noon then turns into a cocktail bar from 3pm as KOLO by Night. It runs May to mid September on a first come, first served basis. Cocktails sit around DKK 125. Time a first Friday for the live DJ sets and aim for the upper terrace.
Tramonto holds the fifth floor of Hotel Ottilia in the Carlsberg District, an Italian rooftop with a 360-degree sweep of the brewery quarter and the skyline beyond. The kitchen runs classic Italian plates with a twist, and the bar pours house cocktails near DKK 140. Best on a warm afternoon, stretched across a lounge sofa with a spritz before the light goes.
The rooftop at NH Copenhagen Grand Joanne sits six floors over Vesterbrogade in Vesterbro, an open-air terrace that channels Riviera ease through the summer. Cocktails are gentle at about DKK 120, walk-ins only. The calendar fills with music quizzes, pop-up concerts and weekend DJs. Come for a sunny aperitivo and stay for a classy sunset session.
Sticks'n'Sushi runs a sky bar on the twelfth floor of the Harbour Tower at Hotel Tivoli, near the central station, with the widest skyline view of any rooftop here. The kitchen sends out sushi and yakitori, the bar pours Japanese-leaning cocktails near DKK 135. The indoor room stays open year round; the terrace is a summer pleasure. Book ahead for a window seat.
SILO tops a converted grain silo in Nordhavn, seventeen and eighteen floors up over the Oresund water. After a rebrand it now gathers SILO Restaurant, Molr Dining Bar and Bar 17 on one floor, with a lounge and open terrace above. Cocktails run about DKK 145. Come for the panorama and a long dinner as the harbor lights come on.
Luftkastellet sits on Refshalevej out on Refshaleoen, pouring tap beer, chilled rose and cocktails beside food carts that run from wood-fired pizza to tacos. It works as a seasonal harborside terrace.
ROOF and Hotel Danmark give you the cleanest harbor and old-town light. Nimb Roof is the hardest table to land, and Sticks'n'Sushi the highest view. Most terraces peak between 6 and 9pm through summer and close for winter.
