São Paulo sprawls, and so does its rooftop scene, but most of the famous names are hotel bars or one-off views. After cutting the listings that could not be confirmed as open public rooftops, three stand up: two hotel landmarks and a museum terrace. Here they are.
The rooftop at Hotel Unique in Jardins, marked by the building's curved hull and a crimson pool with an underwater sound system. The view runs over Ibirapuera Park and the Paulista skyline. Food and drinks come from a name kitchen and prices sit at the top of the market. Best at sunset, and the door is selective. Reserve, dress up, and ask for a pool-side table.
On the 41st floor of the Edifício Itália, one of the highest rooftops in the city and a São Paulo institution since the 1960s. The 360-degree view is the whole point. The kitchen is formal and the cocktails are priced for the address. It leans tourist and special-occasion over local-cool. Best for a first-timer's panorama. Come for a drink at dusk rather than a full dinner.
On the roof of the MAC USP building beside Ibirapuera Park, Vista pairs a contemporary kitchen with a terrace looking over the park and Oscar Niemeyer's marquee. It is calmer and more design-led than the hotel rooftops, and the daytime view rivals the evening one. Best paired with the museum and the park. Book the terrace, not the indoor room.
For the skyline, Skye Bar and Terraço Itália are the two landmarks; for a quieter, design-led view, Vista wins. Most peak between 7 and 10pm. Seven earlier entries were dropped this update because they could not be confirmed as open public rooftops: Bar Tahiti, Flow Rooftop, São Paulo Rooftop, Emiliano Rooftop and Copa Rooftop were unverifiable, Hotel Unique Pool Bar duplicated Skye Bar, and A Casa do Porco is a restaurant rather than a rooftop.
Book ahead for sunset, and pair Vista with a morning at the museum.
