Goa Bar Guide

30+ bars across Goa's drinking neighbourhoods, curated by editors who know the state.

Goa drinks feni. The cashew-fruit spirit has been distilled in Goa for 500 years — colonial Portuguese settlers learned the technique from local cashew growers. Around the heritage layer, North Goa's beach shacks pour cheap pints with the surf. Joseph Bar in Panjim has poured drinks since 1948 and remains the state's most authentic Portuguese-Goan tavern.

Five neighbourhoods cluster the action. Anjuna is the trance-and-beach-shack spine. Vagator runs the cliff-side cocktail terraces. Panjim holds the heritage Portuguese-tavern district. Assagao covers the boutique restaurant-bar quarter. Calangute is the package-tourist mass-market strip.

Cocktails run INR 350 to INR 700 ($4 to $9). Feni shots INR 80 to INR 150. Cheap. Tipping is rounding up. Most bars run to 11pm by law, beach shacks until midnight, weekend trance parties to dawn.
