Minneapolis Bar Guide

30+ bars across Minneapolis's drinking neighbourhoods, curated by editors who know the city.

Minneapolis is the Midwest's most-slept-on cocktail city. Marvel Bar has held a James Beard semi-finalist nomination most years since 2014. The Northeast brewery district holds more breweries per square mile than any other American neighbourhood. The drinks are cheap, the rooms are warm, and the winters give the bars a job to do.

Five neighbourhoods cluster the scene. North Loop is the cocktail-and-warehouse spine. Northeast across the river is the brewery taproom district. Uptown is the residential boutique-bar quarter. Lyn-Lake is the indie nightlife strip. Downtown covers the polished after-work scene.

Cocktails run $13 to $17. Pints $7 to $9. Tipping is 20 percent. Most bars run to 2am. Reserve Marvel Bar and Volstead's on Friday and Saturday. Sunday brunch is the institution — many bars do bottomless mimosas.
