Nice Bar Guide

30+ bars across Nice's drinking neighbourhoods, curated by editors who know the city.

Nice drinks like a city that has had two centuries to perfect the seafront aperitivo. The light is the point. From 6pm in summer, Vieux Nice fills with spritz drinkers. The Promenade des Anglais runs rooftop after rooftop, each with its own angle on the Mediterranean.

Five neighbourhoods cluster the scene. Vieux Nice (the Italian-flavoured old town) is the heritage district. Le Port wraps the harbour with seafood-and-spritz terraces. Carré d'Or is the polished shopping district between Massena and the sea. Cimiez climbs uphill toward the Matisse museum. Riquier is the local district behind.

Spritzes run €7 to €10. Cocktails €11 to €15. Touristy prices on the Promenade, fairer in Vieux Nice. Aperitivo from 6pm. Tip is rounding up. Most bars open until 1am, beach clubs until 3am in summer. Reserve Le Bù and the rooftop terraces in July and August.

Neighbourhood Guide

Vieux Nice

The Italian-flavoured old town. Narrow streets, ochre buildings, and the densest concentration of bars in the city. Walking-only after 6pm.

Le Port

The harbour district east of Vieux Nice. Yacht-side terraces, seafood-and-spritz culture, and the most authentic Niçois aperitivo crowd.

Carré d'Or

Between Place Massena and the sea. The polished shopping district. Hotel cocktail bars, champagne rooms, and a dressed-up evening crowd.

Cimiez

The hill above the centre, climbing toward the Matisse museum. Quieter, more residential, with a few neighbourhood wine bars worth the funicular.

Riquier

East of the Port. The local district. Cheap pastis, neighbourhood pubs, and where Niçois drink when they want to escape the tourists.
