About Sofia

Sofia covers Europe for barsforKings, with weekly reporting from Paris, Madrid, Rome and Milan, and regular trips through Barcelona, Lisbon and the central European capitals. She lives between Paris and Madrid and has edited or contributed to two Time Out city editions and three European hospitality magazines.

Sofia's editorial work focuses on what she calls the 'Tuesday-night bar' — the rooms a city's bartenders, sommeliers and chefs choose to drink in after their own shifts. She has interviewed more than two hundred working European bartenders for barsforKings, and her city-level rankings draw heavily on those conversations.

She is a vocal advocate for European apéritif culture, has a particular affection for the negronis of Milan and the gintonics of Madrid, and has filed copy from a hotel terrace in Marrakech, a basement in Berlin, and a wood-panelled room in central Vienna in the same fortnight.

Sofia oversees barsforKings' annual rankings for Paris, Rome, Madrid, Milan and Barcelona, and has the final editorial sign-off on every European bar review we publish.
