The Hollywood Lounge That Lit Up Fort Lane for Twelve Years
The Roxy traded for more than a decade at 7 Fort Lane, inside Auckland's heritage Imperial Buildings, taking its name from the old Roxy theatre that once filled the space. It ran as a luxe, Hollywood styled nightclub and cocktail lounge, a Fort Lane fixture for after work drinks that turned into late nights with local and visiting DJs.
The bar closed permanently in early 2024. The NZ Herald reported that the operating company behind The Roxy and its sister venue Everybody's went into liquidation, citing the toll of Covid lockdowns, flood damage and pressures on the area. We keep this page for the record and point readers to the Fort Lane and Britomart bars still open nearby.
The Roxy filled a grand heritage room in the Imperial Buildings, dressed with the glamour its theatre name implied. Reviews from its trading years, including Concrete Playground, described a plush lounge and dance floor pitched at a dressed up late night crowd rather than a quiet pint.
While it traded, The Roxy ran a cocktail led list to match the lounge setting, with DJs driving the room late into the night. The venue is now closed, so there is no current menu to order from. For a comparable Auckland night, the CBD cocktail bars below are the better bet.
In its day The Roxy drew a dressed up CBD crowd for late weekend nights, with DJs and dancing the draw. That crowd has since moved on to other Fort Lane and Britomart venues following the 2024 closure.
