Whisler's operates walk-in only. Arrive early on Thursdays through Saturdays to secure a spot at the bar or the backyard. Weeknights rarely require a wait.

Whisler's arrived on East 6th Street in 2013 and immediately set the tone for what Austin cocktail culture was going to become. In a city that can lean heavy on live music and cold beer, Whisler's planted a flag for serious spirits — and the backyard patio made sure it never felt pretentious about it.

The mezcal list is the main event. We counted 47 expressions on our last visit, spanning earthy Oaxacan espadins, smoky tobaziche, and rare tobalá pours that you will not find anywhere else in Texas. The bar team knows the category deeply — ask for a guided flight and you will leave understanding why the category has consumed Austin's cocktail scene.

Beyond mezcal, the cocktail menu rotates with the seasons and rewards regular visits. The bartenders have a light hand with sweetness, favouring savoury and herbal profiles that hold up to the warm Austin evenings. The backyard is strung with lights, packed with regulars, and frequently features local DJs from around 9pm on weekends. Get there by 7pm if you want a seat.
