The Athenee Residence gastrobar on Ruamrudee that has won Time Out's Best Cocktail Bar award more times than anyone in Bangkok.
Hyde & Seek occupies the ground floor of Athenee Residence on Soi Ruamrudee, three minutes from Phloen Chit BTS and the back exit of the Athenee hotel. The bar opened in 2010 under restaurateur Pongsak Sansatorn (also behind Q&A Bar) and has, in the years since, accumulated more Time Out Bangkok "Best Cocktail Bar" awards than any other venue in the city — the Time Out 2024 Bar Awards put it in the top tier alongside Tropic City and Vesper. The official site confirms the 11:30–01:00 daily schedule and the lunch-through-late-night kitchen.
The right visitor wants a Negroni or a Bangkok Mule, a plate of gastropub food (the truffle fries and the wagyu cheeseburger are the recurring orders), and a long sit on the leather banquettes. The wrong visitor wants a quiet whisky bar — the room runs loud Friday and Saturday — or a Thonglor-style late-night cocktail destination, since Hyde & Seek closes at 01:00 sharp.
The room is split between the bar at the front (a long marble counter with around 14 stools) and the dining banquettes at the back, with leather, dark wood and bookshelves doing the heavy aesthetic lifting. BK Magazine's review described the room as "the most-photographed gastrobar in Bangkok", which is fair — the bar shelves and the green-leather banquettes show up across the venue's Instagram tag. The terrace seating on Ruamrudee is unmissable in cooler months (November–February) and unbearable in March–May.
The cocktail programme is gin-forward — the house Negroni is the most-ordered drink across multiple Google Maps review years, and the Bangkok Mule (lemongrass-and-kaffir-lime variant on a Moscow Mule) is the regular-season signature. Time Out's 2023 Bar Awards write-up called the gin list "the most considered in Bangkok outside the Bamboo Bar". Skip the seasonal cocktail menu's tropical-fruit experiments; the regulars come for the classics, not the rotating one-offs.
On the food side, the truffle fries (320 THB), the wagyu cheeseburger (780 THB) and the duck confit are the repeat orders across Tripadvisor and Google Maps reviews. The wine programme is also stronger than a typical gastropub — the by-the-glass list rotates monthly and the Sommelier Selection menu is worth asking for if you are committing to a long sit.
Weekday lunch is the Phloen Chit corporate crowd from the surrounding embassies and office towers; 17:00–19:00 is a post-work happy-hour wave (the lobby of Athenee Residence empties through the bar). From 19:30 onward the room shifts to date-night couples and small groups doing dinner-and-drinks, with the Friday/Saturday late-night skew running closer to a 28–38 working professional crowd. Time Out's nightlife guide notes the format as "a gastrobar that ages well across the night, not a single-time-of-day venue".
