Bangkok's Most Complete Rooftop Experience
Octave is not Bangkok's most intimate rooftop bar, but it may be the most complete. Spanning floors 45 through 48 of the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit, it offers three distinct levels of experience. The dining floors serve an approachable Thai and international menu with cocktails worth ordering. The 49th floor observation deck offers the purest thing this venue does: an unobstructed 360-degree panorama of one of Asia's most photogenic skylines.
The cocktail programme is competent without being ambitious. The house Bangkok Sling is the right order. Made with Mekhong Thai whisky, lime, and fresh pineapple, it anchors the menu with a sense of place that the international options lack. The gin selection runs to 28 bottles, which outperforms most venues at this altitude. The wine list is hotel standard, competent and unremarkable. If cocktails are your focus, this works. If wine is, Vesper on Convent Road is the more considered choice.
Peak hour is 7pm to 9pm on weekends, when the social media crowd arrives for sunset shots and then stays. Book the northeast-facing table positions on floor 46 for the Chao Phraya view rather than the Sukhumvit corridor. The Bangkok rooftop bar scene has expanded significantly since 2020, but Octave holds its position through sheer spectacle. First-time visitors to the city should come here once. Locals typically prefer Long Table for its more manageable scale and better cocktail-to-crowd ratio.
