Poble Sec, Barcelona
Walk-in only. Standing only. Small space, often busy.
Barcelona's Heritage Standing Tapas Bar
Quimet i Quimet has been operating in Poble Sec since 1914. The bar is small and the format is unusual: standing only, with tinned tapas montaditos (small open-faced sandwiches) and a deep wine list mounted on the wall behind the bar.
The signature is the montaditos — small bread bases topped with tinned anchovies, smoked fish, cheeses, and other Spanish preserved ingredients. Each montadito is built to order. The vermouth is house-made and the wine list runs to around 200 bottles, mostly Spanish.
The crowd is heritage tourists, Barcelona neighbourhood regulars, and visiting wine and tapas enthusiasts. Pair with Casa Mariol for a Barcelona standing-bar afternoon.
