The Wig Shop is a hidden cocktail lounge at 27 Temple Place in Downtown Crossing, from the team behind JM Curley and Bogie's Place. Boston Magazine called it a cut above, and Resy framed it as the city's retro-glam newcomer when it opened.
The entrance is the trick. The space was Wig World for over 50 years, and the team kept the wig-filled window and blaring neon sign, so you look for the wigs on Temple Street to find the door.
The room is small and cozy, with couches, low tables and chairs around a dimly lit space, the bar tucked at the back. Deep blue velvet banquettes and floor-to-ceiling gold curtains set the retro-glam tone.
The drinks split classic and bold. Expect a Remember the Maine or a proper Martini service alongside originals like the best-selling I Feel Pretty, with citron vodka, raspberry and glitter foam, plus 30-plus Champagnes plus rare Krug.
Come for a Martini or a glass of Champagne in a hidden room. For more in the city, see our Boston cocktail bars guide, the global cocktail bars index, and the cocktail bars near me finder.
Book ahead Tuesday through Saturday, when reservations run from 5 to 7pm for parties of two to six and release a week out. The small room fills, so a booking beats a wait.
