Au Bon Vieux Temps

Hidden Gems $$

Au Bon Vieux Temps is hidden in a narrow alley off Rue du Marché aux Herbes in Brussels Centre. The bar dates to 1695 and is one of the oldest continuously operating drinking establishments in Belgium. The interior is preserved 17th century — wood-panelled walls, original beams, antique stained glass.

The drinks are simple: traditional Belgian beers, Genever, basic wine, and reliable cocktails. The room is the experience as much as the drinks. The historical patina of three centuries of continuous operation is visible everywhere.

The crowd is heritage tourists drawn by the history and Brussels regulars who treat the bar as their local. Pair with A La Mort Subite nearby for a complete Brussels heritage afternoon.
