The White Stag

The White Stag opened in late April 1999 as Wan Chai's first open fronted bar, and the format still defines it. The room spills straight onto the Lockhart Road pavement, so the sights and noise of the strip become part of the furniture.

Honeycombers ranks it among Hong Kong's best sports bars, crediting the beer, the nibbles and three wide screens that run football, rugby and motorsport in parallel. Time Out lists it as a Wan Chai pub fixture, which after 27 years counts as understatement.

The kitchen plays the supporting role properly: burgers, curries, steak and chicken wings, priced for a second round rather than a special occasion. Tripadvisor regulars hold it at 4.4 and praise the pints, the trivia nights and bar staff who remember faces.

It is not a cocktail room and never pretends otherwise. Come for a fixture, a fast lunch pint, or the pavement tables when the evening cools.
