Our Take on Captain Foxheart's
In a city that rewards the bold, Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar and Spirit Lodge has carved out a reputation as one of the Heights' most reliably excellent cocktail destinations. The name alone earns it points, but the bar backs up every bit of that swagger with drinks that are genuinely worth crossing town for.
The programme leans on a rotating seasonal menu that changes enough to reward repeat visits without ever chasing trends for their own sake. The bartenders here know their craft and show it without condescension. Ask for a recommendation and you will actually get one. The space itself is warm and unpretentious, a low-lit neighbourhood room that happens to have an exceptional back bar.
Best visited on a weekday evening when the pace is measured and the bartenders have time to talk. Weekends fill up, but the crowd is usually worth being among. We recommend it to anyone who finds Houston's downtown bar scene a little too polished. This is where the city's drinkers actually drink.
It links naturally into an evening that might start with a meal in the Heights and continue to Houston's wider cocktail bar scene, or stand alone as a destination on its own terms.
