Our Take

A Banking Hall Turned British Pub Beside The Langham

The Wigmore sits at 15 Langham Place, tucked into The Langham hotel in Marylebone, opposite Broadcasting House. The room is a former banking hall reworked by the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, with a food menu overseen by Michel Roux Jr. The Michelin Guide lists it, which is rare for what styles itself as a British pub.

This is a pub with hotel polish rather than a backstreet boozer. Expect proper cask ale and a serious cocktail list alongside elevated pub classics. If you want a sticky carpet and a cheap round, this is the wrong door. If you want a refined version of the British pub with the kitchen to back it, it is one of the West End's most distinctive.

The Room

Brudnizki's redesign kept the grandeur of the banking hall, with high ceilings, brass and rich colour, while keeping the feel of a bar rather than a dining room. Time Out's review highlights how the space reads as a pub with the volume and finish turned up, which suits both a quick pint and a long sit.

The Drinks

The bar pours well kept cask alongside a cocktail list that takes itself seriously, and the wine and beer choices match the hotel setting. The food is the differentiator, with Roux Jr's name on reimagined pub classics and bar snacks built to drink with. Small plates start around nine pounds.

Because it sits inside The Langham, service is sharp and the room stays comfortable even when busy. Order a cask pint or a cocktail, add a plate or two, and treat it as the upmarket pub it is rather than a budget night out.

The Crowd

A Marylebone and Broadcasting House crowd of media regulars and hotel guests, busiest on Thursday to Saturday evenings. The room holds a pre theatre and post work set without ever turning rowdy.
