Our Take on Top Cuvée
Top Cuvée on Blackstock Road is the bar that proved London natural wine could be both casual and rigorous at the same time. The model — bar and bottle shop in one room, with the same list at retail and on-pour — encourages the kind of repeat custom that builds a clientele rather than a one-night audience.
The buying team is one of the most active in the city when it comes to new natural-leaning producers from Eastern Europe and the Iberian Atlantic. Walk in on a Tuesday and the by-the-glass rotation will include things you have not seen at other rooms yet. Take a bottle home for retail price plus a small corkage; bring a friend and order something serious off the list.
The kitchen runs a tight roast-chicken-and-vegetable programme that has, fairly, become the bar's signature. The staff are unusually patient with newcomers — natural wine without the lecture. If you live anywhere within walking distance of Finsbury Park, this is the bar you adopt as your local. If you do not, it is worth the trip.
