Malasaña, Madrid
Madrid's Heritage Vermouth Temple
Casa Camacho has been on Calle de San Andrés in Malasaña since 1928. The interior is preserved Spanish bar — tile floor, marble counter, antique vermouth taps, dim warm lighting. The bar pours vermouth on tap from house barrels, jenever, and a small selection of Spanish spirits.
The drinks are simple and cheap. The signature is the Yayo — a Spanish concoction of vermouth, gin, and soda invented at this bar. The vermouth on tap is some of the best in Madrid. Cash only, no concessions to modern payment systems.
The crowd is heritage tourists, Spanish locals on their afternoon vermouth, and Malasaña neighbourhood regulars. Pair with La Venencia for a Madrid heritage drinking afternoon.
