Sol, on Calle del Arenal between Sol and Ópera
A historic deli counter; bocadillos and wine by the glass
Wine by the glass at the standing counter
Our Take on Ferpal
Ferpal stood at Calle del Arenal 7, on the pedestrian run between Sol and Ópera, for almost five decades. It was a gourmet deli at the front and a standing bar at the back, the kind of address Time Out Madrid called a mythic Madrid business when it shut. This profile is kept for the record; the counter is closed.
The draw was simple and famous: bocadillos of jamón and lomo ibérico, cut from the legs behind the counter, eaten standing with a small glass of wine. eldiario.es, in its Somos Madrid section, framed Ferpal as part of a vanishing kind of city centre business, the neighbourhood deli squeezed out of the historic core.
It closed at the end of February 2021, days before it would have marked its 50th anniversary, a detail Madrid Secreto and vidademadrid both reported at the time. The closure drew the kind of coverage usually reserved for landmark restaurants, which says something about how the bocadillo counter had wound itself into the daily life of the centre.
We list it because searches for the name still land, and because a closed page beats a broken link. For places still pouring nearby, see the Madrid wine bars below and our Madrid wine bars guide.
If you came looking for the famous jamón bocadillo on Arenal, it is gone. The sibling rooms below cover the same central Madrid ground for wine and a quick standing bite.
