Our Take on La Planta Cervecería
La Planta Cervecería operates a working brewery with an urban pub wrapped around it in Perpetuo Socorro, the creative district that Medellín designers and roasters have steadily colonized. The room looks straight onto the manufacturing plant, so the glass in your hand traces back to tanks a few meters away.
The brewing program is unusually wide for Colombia. The house lists 27 recipes built on Colombian barley and hops, running from light and fresh to intense and bold. The Ipagedon, an American session IPA, leads the lineup, with the Tatacoa Cactus and Opita Achira showing the more experimental side.
La Planta bills its brewery tour as the coolest tour in Medellín, and the claim holds up better than most marketing lines. The tour walks the plant, explains the three independent micro breweries behind the operation, and ends in tastings. Book it through the official site rather than turning up.
Prices sit in the mid range for the city. The retail store lists the Ipagedon around 16,000 pesos a bottle with six pack discounts, and taproom pours track close to that. The operation runs deeper than the bar. A beer store sells the full range by the bottle, a membership program covers regulars, and the brand now reaches Colombia, the United States and France. Enmedallo lists it among the rooms that define the district.
For the editors, La Planta is the most complete brewery experience on the Medellín craft beer map. Pair it with the El Poblado tap rooms for contrast. This is where the beer gets made, not just poured.
